Almond Russian (Prunus tenella) - Shrub Seedling

A compact, spreading shrub valued for its very showy bright pink flowers in early spring which smother the bare branches followed by sparse but curious fuzzy fruit.  Some suckering.  It does best in full sun and well-drained soil.

Cherry Cupid (Prunus) - Shrub Seedling

A hardy deciduous hybrid shrub variety of Sour Cherry. Produces the largest fruit of all the sour cherries which is dark/red fruit and perfect for fresh eating but it tends to be a bit later than other varieties.

Cherry Juliet (Prunus) - Shrub Seedling

Hardy deciduous shrub and hybrid variety of the University of Saskatchewan Sour Cherry. It blooms earlier than the other Romance varieties, and produces highly desirable, delicious dark red fruit for production with high yields. Is ideal as a landscape or accent tree.

A hardy hybrid shrub variety of sour cherry from the University of Saskatchewan.  Medium sized dark red/black flavorful fruit.  Suitable for fresh eating, processing, or juice.  The shrub is great as an accent or landscape tree.  Self-pollinating but better results obtained when two varieties are planted.

Known for its unique, leathery grey-green foliage which turns an attractive reddish-purple in fall.  Beautiful blanket of white blossoms.  Popular as an ornamental shrub in parks and front yards.  Edible small purple-black cherries. Is suitable as an under planting or groundcover.

Chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa) - Shrub Seedling

Commonly called black chokeberry.  A small, compact, spreading shrub with an upright growth habit.  Noted for its abundance of 5-6 flowered clusters of white flowers in spring.  Glossy dark green leaves turn purple/red in the fall.  The edible, blackish-purple fruit is tart and bitter and persists throughout fall and well into winter.  May be used to make jams and jellies.  Only one plant is required for abundant fruiting.  An excellent wildlife shrub. Tolerant of a wide range of soil and moisture conditions. Great for mass planting and general garden use.

Chokecherry Robert (Prunus virginiana) - Shrub Seedling

A shrub or small tree that produces very large berries.  One of the sweeter chokecherries.  Good yield.  The berries are great for fresh eating, making jams, jellies, and wine.  Red foliage makes for a beautiful addition to any landscape.

Cotoneaster Peking (Cotoneaster acutifolia) - Shrub Seedling

This shrub is best used as a hedge, or in groupings.  Valued for its showy fall colors.  Features dark green foliage throughout the growing season.  The dark green foliage turn an attractive shades of orange and red in fall.  It has shell pink flowers along the branches in mid spring.  This is a relatively low maintenance shrub, and takes pruning very well which can be done at any time. 

Cranberry Highbush (Viburnum trilobum) - Shrub Seedling

Profuse, attractive blooms in the form of large clusters with small yellow flowers in the center surrounded by larger white blooms in spring.  Dark green, three-lobed foliage turns yellow to purplish-red in fall.  Produces pendulous clusters of small red edible berries similar in appearance and taste to cranberries.  The fruit are best used for making jams, preserves or sauces and can also be a useful cooking ingredient.  Excellent ornamental plants.

Currant Ben Nevis (Ribes nigrum) - Shrub Seedling

A medium-sized shrub grown for its tart black berries.  The clusters of black round berries are usually ready for picking from mid to late summer.  Ideal for jam and also used for fresh eating, cooking, baking, wine making, and sauces.

Currant Red Lake (Ribes rubrum)

A red currant cultivar which is grown primarily for fruit production.  It is a compact, mounding, deciduous shrub grown for its tasty red berries. Clusters of greenish-yellow flowers bloom in spring, and are noticeable but not particularly ornamental.  Medium green leaves are 3-5 lobed, and are aromatic when crushed.  Flowers give way to long, pendant clusters of bright red currants which ripen in July.  The berries have a tart taste and juicy texture.  Good for preserves and wine making.

Dogwood Red Osier (Cornus sericea) - Shrub Seedling

Deep green foliage turns reddish-purple in fall.  Showy white flowers in summer are followed by bluish-white berries that attract birds in winter.  Dark red bark provides an attractive shrub in winter.  Often used as a garden hedge.  It is frequently used for waterway bank erosion protection and restoration in North America.  Its root system provides excellent soil retention.  Very tolerant of wet conditions.  Hardy.

This species is very cold hardy and shade tolerant.This species is bright green and conical shaped. Most interesting is its upright blue cones that fade into brown as they mature.

Haskap (Honeyberry) Boreal Blizzard (Lonicera caerulea) - Shrub Seedling

Known for its excellent taste and is the most similar to the Aurora Haskap. The flavour of Haskaps is generally described as a cross between a blueberry and a raspberry. Boreal Blizzard Haskaps are well suited to fresh eating, freezing, baking, and preserves.

Very large berries that have an excellent flavour; a taste between raspberry and blueberry.  A cold hardy, fast growing shrub.  Ready to harvest at the end of June.  Pollinator required.  Pair with other early pollinators to achieve a higher yield.  Aurora is a great companion for Borealis.  Bred at the University of Saskatchewan.

Haskap (Honeyberry) Tundra (Lonicera caerulea) - Shrub Seedling

A hardy, fast growing, high yielding, deciduous shrub with large, sweet, tart flavoured fruit that mature in early summer.  Of all the varieties, Tundra has the firmest fruit, making it great for commercial production.  Like Borealis, Tundra does not self-pollinate well. We recommend another variety such as Berry Blue.  Cold hardy.

Hawthorn Arnold (Crataegus arnoldiana) - Tree Seedling

A broadly rounded, low-branched tree with wide-spreading, horizontal branches.  The leaves are simple, oval-shaped, with serrated edges.  Beautiful clusters of white flowers in spring are followed by bright red berries mid-summer.  An attractive ornamental tree.  Also used in windbreaks and riparian planting.  The fruit can be made into jams and jellies.

Hazelnut Beaked (Corylus cornuta) - Shrub Seedling

Medium-sized shrub commonly grown for its edible qualities.  Hazelnuts have always grown in Saskatchewan.  The nuts are usually ready for picking from early to mid fall.  Hardiest species of hazelnut.

Larch Siberian (Larix sibirica) - Tree Seedling

A large, cold hardy conifer.  Arching branches with clusters of long soft green needles turn golden yellow in fall before dropping.

Larch Tamarack (Larix laricina) - Tree Seedling

Pyramidal, narrow-crowned with clusters of soft, green needles in spring turn golden-yellow in fall before dropping.  Grey bark matures to red-brown and small red-brown cones develop.  Cold hardy.

Lilac Villosa (Syringa prestoniae) - Shrub Seedling

A late lilac with fragrant mauve flowers grow in clusters at the end of its branches during mid to late summer and fade to a light pink as it matures.  A relatively large and cold hardy shrub with excellent privacy and wind protection.  Grows quickly and is very drought resistant, making it most suitable for the outer row of a shelterbelt.  Its roots are non-suckering.

Lilac Vulgaris (Syringa vulgaris) - Shrub Seedling

An upright, multi-stemmed, suckering, deciduous shrub.  It is particularly noted for its mid to late spring (May) bloom of very fragrant, tubular, four lobed, lavender-purple flowers.

Linden American (Tilia americana) - Tree Seedling

Commonly called American Basswood, the American Linden is a medium to large deciduous tree with an ovate, dome crown.  Large, dark green, oval leaves and fragrant flowers in June.  The bark is a gray to light brown, with narrow, well defined fissures.  Drooping clusters of small, fragrant, yellowish-white flowers.  Attracts birds and butterflies.  Often used as a specimen or dense shade tree.

Linden Littleleaf (Tilia cordata) - Tree Seedling

The Littleleaf Linden has a symmetrical shape; dense pyramidal.  Branching is upright and increases in density with age.  Small, heart-shaped leaves.  Widely grown as an ornamental tree.  Popular as a shade tree with its dense canopy. 

Maple Amur (Acer ginnala) - Tree Seedling

A small, graceful, incredibly colourful tree.  Fragrant pale yellow flowers in spring.  Attractive glossy green lobed foliage turns fiery red in fall.  This tree is perfectly suited for urban environments.  Its small size allows you to plant it in city yards and beneath power lines.
