Sea Buckthorn - Male (Hippophae rhamnoides) - Shrub Seedling

Male - fruitless. Variety that is a pollinizer for female plants. One male plant is capable of pollinating 5-7 female plants. Male Sea Buckthorn plants do not produce berries, but the pollen from their flowers allows female plant to set fruit. Has relatively thorn-less branches along with silvery green foliage and nitrogen-fixing capabilities, which improves the surrounding soil.

Sea Buckthorn Billy Boy (Hippophae rhamnoides) - Shrub Seedling

Male - fruitless. Is a male sea buckthorn cultivar selected by Bill Schroeder in 2022.  Its sole purpose is to produce pollen to ensure fruiting of female sea buckthorn plants.  Billy Boy grows to a mature height of 3.5 meters with a width of 3 meters. It produces large numbers of pollen producing flowers in early spring.  A single Billy Boy will pollinate 5-7 female plants.  It is able to pollinate most all sea buckthorn female cultivars. This cultivar is fully hardy to zone 2.

Sea Buckthorn Harvest Moon (female - fruit bearing) (Hippophae rhamnoides) - Shrub Seedling

Female – produces fruit.  A Canadian hybrid producing large, tart fruit with some sweetness.  Fewer thorns then most other varieties making the fruit easier to pick.  Highly ornamental.  This multi-stemmed shrub features large clusters of reddish-orange berries form late summer and fall.  Great for hedges, screening, or shelterbelts, or as an accent shrub.  Ability to grow in and improve poor soils.

Sea Buckthorn Prairie Sunset (female - fruit bearing) (Hippophae rhamnoides) - Shrub Seedling

Female – fruit producing.  Striking orange berries are highly nutritional and contain healthy antioxidants.  Silver foliage.  A great shrub for a dry area.  Cold tolerant.

Strawberry Kent (Fragaria) - Shrub Seedling

June-bearing strawberry.  Hardy plant with firm red fruit is vigorous and productive.  Milder flavour; lighter color, and runners don’t spread as much as other types.  Freezes well.

This cold hardy tree is round-shaped, with attractive dark green leaves, that can withstand bitter winters and still put on lots of growth every summer. Prefers moist to wet ground and full sun, though it can tolerate partial shade too.

Willow Native Pussy (Salix discolor)

Male pussy willows are noted for producing ornamentally attractive silver, velvety upright catkins on leafless stems late in the winter to early spring.  Female pussy willow produce smaller, less attractive greenish catkins.  May be used as a windbreak or hedge.

A mid-sized shrub with long, slender, glossy, green leaves.  Grassy narrow stems emerge reddish-brown.  Small male catkins appear in late spring.  Fast growing.  Well suited for mass planting.  Ideal plant to use in a wet area with erosion risk.  Suckering.

Fast growing, low-branching tree forming a broad, spreading round-topped crown.  Bright silver, finely-serrated foliage on upper side, dull grayish-green on lower side; new growth is green and flexible.  Foliage remain on the branches well into winter.  Used in windbreaks.
